CLOVES FRAIL LOVE

It's not often that an artist falls from the clouds, so perfectly proportioned as newcomer Cloves, but then again, it's likely that a lot of hard work has gone on behind the scenes in order to reach this level of high-gloss pop. Indeed, the Melbourne-born, London-based singer-songwriter has been in the studio with the likes of Justin Parker (Lana Del Rey, Rihanna) and Rich Cooper (Mumford & Sons), recording her debut EP, XIII, for much of 2015. She's now ready to share the first fruits of those sessions; a tenderly unfurling piano-pop ballad called 'Frail Love'. It's a less-is-more composition, for sure, but the melody is carried skywards by Cloves' divine vocals, "I'm giving up more than I should / Forgive me for my frail love." We'll let her off, so long as she keeps coming up with material as heart-swellingly pretty as this. - DC
